Hansen Award

Making Our Campus a Better Place For All of Us

UUP the Union that makes SUNY Work

For Exceptional Professional Service to our Chapter

The Hansen Award is named in honor of Charlie Hansen .  Charlie was one of UUP’s founders and advocated fiercely for Professional staff to be included in an academic union.  Charlie was Stony Brook’s first chapter president, a chapter vice president and became the statewide Vice President for Professionals.  Charlie is the main reason professionals today enjoy better working conditions and in the first negotiated contract he pushed to remove the term “working at the pleasure of” from the policies of the SUNY Board of Trustees.  We professionals can thank Charlie for securing a path to permanent appointment and fighting to have professionals be treated as equals with the academics.  This award is the chapter’s way of recognizing the significant and lasting contributions made by Charlie. This award is given out to a professional at the Stony Brook Chapter who exemplifies the commitment and dedication of Charlie .
